Experience Tokyo’s foodie nightlife with this three-hour walking tour through Yurakuchi, Ginza and Shimbashi. The tour will begin in Yurakucho where you will visit Gado Shita which is a thriving restaurant district set beneath the train tracks within an arched tunnel. In Yurakucho your guide will also take you to the 1970s style yokocho alleyways which are brimming with small local eateries. This is where the locals dine and where you will find delicious, affordable delicacies. The tour will stop off to eat at two places in this area where you can pick up some traditional snacks. The area is popular with office workers who head here for a bite to eat after a hard day in the office. This section of the tour will explore many interesting dining places that are rarely visited by tourists. The tour then continues into the affluent district of Ginza. In fact, the area is so affluent that it even sells a melon for $400 dollars. The guide will take you to see some of these expensive products and you will also visit a rice cracker shop which dates back to the early 19th Century. This shop is famous across Japan for its secret cracker recipes and you will have the opportunity to try some for yourself. After sampling some of the city’s famous snacks it will be time to visit an authentic Japanese restaurant in Ginza for a wonderful six-course meal. This sample menu will include regional and seasonal dishes from the south of Japan. After this delicious restaurant meal, your guide will transport you to the rustic local eateries of Shimbashi for some dessert. Spend the rest of the evening with the locals in an izakaya – a small and inexpensive food and drink bar.
Our Tokyo Food Tour, which is leaving daily, visits a combination of street food markets, trendy bars, standing bars and traditional local eateries to get a good understanding of Japan’s food and drink scene.
